It's been a while since I've been in a car accident and fortunately I have never been in a situation where I have to administer CPR or offer emergency assistance. It's a situation none of us want to be in, but like a boy or girl scout, life works best when we are always prepared. Thankfully, our smart devices have made it easier to handle accidents and emergencies when they pop up. There are tools built into our gadgets that can help us assist ourselves and others in an emergency, but there are apps that are specifically designed to help you if you ever find yourself in a bad situation.
1. American Red Cross Apps. The American Red Cross’s series of apps will help you in almost any emergency situation. They have apps that offer you assistance in almost any crisis. Flood, tornado, hurricane and even pet emergencies are covered. One of the best things about these apps are they help prepare you with knowledge to help you in the aftermath of an accident or other natural emergency. app differs from the other apps on the list in that it helps you help yourself and others in the immediate aftermath of an accident. This app helps you build your first aid knowledge ahead of time, and can also provide you with potentially lifesaving information in a moment, so that you are better prepared to keep yourself and others involved in the accident stable until emergency services arrive.
2. Your Insurance Company’s App
Many of the larger insurance companies like Allstate, Progressive, and State Farm have apps that you can download and use in the case of an emergency. If you're in a car accident, the features in the apps can help you get in touch with your insurance representative. Their features can vary, but usually include some sort of assistance in getting in touch with a representative and reporting your accident to the company. You can also use the app to place claims in the event of a home emergency.
3. Android and Apple built-in emergency apps. Apple and Android have emergency features built into the operating system. Android phones with Nougat and newer allow you to save your list of emergency contacts and your medical information. This feature is built right into the phone dialer keypad, which is helpful because you can access the dialer even if your phone is locked. If you're in an emergency situation, first responders and good Samaritans can contact your loved ones. Apple devices have an auto-call function which allows you to press the home button five times to call emergency services or your loved ones. Keep in mind most phones can call 911 even if they aren't active and even without a SIM card. If you were looking for a use for an old phone, you could keep it as an emergency phone stashed in your car or at home.
