How to Stay Safe While Playing Online Video Games

Stepping out into the bitter cold doesn't only affect you, but the blast of arctic temperatures could put your electronics on thin ice! If you live in areas that experience cold temperatures and snow it can be a challenge to keep your technology safe and functioning. Smartphones, notebooks, tablets, and laptops can all lose functionality when you're working or playing in colder temperatures. If you're looking to keep your devices safe, here are some easy tips, that will put you at lower risk of damaging your mobile device or laptop when temperatures plummet to near freezing.

Keep your smartphone close to your body when outdoors. Our bodies produce plenty of heat, which means the simplest way to protect your smartphone is to keep it on your person as much as you can while outdoors. Still, if you have to use it when it’s cold outside, don’t lay it down anywhere because the surface may be colder than you realize. Additionally, laying it on a freezing surface can cause condensation to build up underneath the screen once you return to a warmer area.

Consider Investing in Winter Equipment. If you live in a region that experiences extra brutal winters, it may be worthwhile for you to invest in some winter equipment for your equipment. Items like screen protectors, insulating cases, and other innovative products provide an extra level of protection in these cold winter months.

Don’t Leave Technology in the Cold! Don't leave your phones and computers in vehicles overnight or for extended periods. It is easy to leave electronic devices behind in a rush to get inside from inclement weather, but doing so can cause issues the next day.

Wait for the devices to warm up before using them. If you’re not sure whether or not your smartphone will stand up to the elements it’s OK to power down the device until you can get inside. However, wait a while to turn it back on because the device itself will generate heat, and if it’s still cold to the touch, you may notice moisture starting to form along the edges. A quick hack is to hold the phone to your chest and rub it gently until the chill goes away.

Have a Backup Charging Power Source. In the winter, technology and devices have to expend more energy to stay warm. As an example, if your phone is in your pocket while you are outside, you may notice that the battery drops significantly faster.

Have automatic backups for your devices. It is essential to have a backup plan in place so that your smart devices and smartphones succumb to the cold, you will have your data saved. Windows, Apple, and Android devices all have programs built in that will help you keep local or cloud-based backups of your data.

Hopefully, this will give you some ideas of how to keep your smartphones and tablets safe in cooler weather. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
