If you're like me, you struggle with taking too many pictures with your smartphone. Why shouldn't you? Modern smartphones come with a lot of storage which allows us to capture our precious memories. You need to be aware that your tech devices can fail at any time, which is why you need to be vigilant to ensure your photos are being automatically backed up. Contrary to popular belief, retrieving your photos can be nearly impossible if your smartphone fails. The problem most of you are probably running into is how to back up those photos. The internet is full of places that allow you to store your photos for a fee, but did you know there are many services, some of which you are already using that allow you to back those photos up at no charge? Here's what you need to know.
There are many paid services that you're subcribed to that offer services to backup your smartphone photos. iCloud and Google offer excellent services to make sure pictures, as well as your entire phone is stored to the cloud. The challenge with these services is there is a monthly fee involved with this process. The other problem you are probably facing is that you're probably already subscribed to a service that offers photo backup as part of their menu. Here are your options.
Microsoft OneDrive. If you're a technology user, you probably have access to OneDrive. If you're a Windows user, it's already installed on your computer, but you only have access to the standard 5 Gigabytes of free storage. That amount of space is worthless right? Well, don't forget if you're a Microsoft Office 365 user, you get 1 Terabyte of storage included with that subscription of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access. The great thing about OneDrive is there is an app you can download to your smartphone that will allow your photos (and videos) to automatically be backed up to your OneDrive account. OneDrive will even organize your photos by date and year which means you don't have to remember where specific photos are being stored.
Amazaon Photos. I think Amazon photos is probably one of the best kept secrets when it comes to phone photo backup. Along with those amazing deals, free shipping and streaming service, as a Amazon Prime member, you also get unlimited photo storage. Download the Amazon photos app to your smartphone and it will automatically backup photos to your account. The downside to Amazon Photos is you only get 15 Gigabytes to backup those videos. If you run out of video storage space, you will have to pay an additional $1.99 a month. Amazon even claims you can transfer photos from another cloud storage provider to their service.
Carbonite Mobile. Carbonite is not only that stuff Han Solo was trapped in, it is probably one of the best computer cloud backup services out there. They support your business and personal computers with around the backup services with unlimited backup storage. One of the rarely mentioned features is Carbonite is their Carbonite Mobile app that you can download to your smartphone and it will backup the photos and videos to your unlimited backup plan.
IDrive: IDrive is a great cloud backup service praised for its balance of features and affordability. They offer plans that cover multiple devices, including desktops and smartphones, with good storage options. They also have a unique feature where they can physically ship you a hard drive for initial backups or large restores, which can be a huge time-saver.
Backblaze: While Backblaze is incredibly popular for its simple and unlimited desktop backup, they also offer mobile backup through their app. It's not as feature-rich as some others, but it's a solid option if your primary need is desktop backup and you want a simple mobile solution as well.
Hopefully, this will give you tips to help you backup up the photos on your smartphones for free. With all of the features that are offered with all of the cloud services you sign up for, it's easy to miss some of features than can benefit you and save you money.
